STAY THE COURSE

On a Sunday morning news program I actually heard President Bush say that he had not used the phrase STAY THE COURSE….excuse me…but his has been his mantra for years…and any good journalist can Google the thousands of times he has said things like WE WILL NOT CUT AND RUN..WE WILL STAY THE COURSE…

We all knew that the phrase STAY THE COURSE was wrong.. Now their polling asks that they use a new phrase…and they are scrambling to find a softer way to say their message and continue on in Iraq killing and maiming…

The media should be throwing up at this notion that they now say that they never used the phrase STAY THE COURSE…..they are trying to re-write history…

Right Wing Radio and Television talk show hosts have had special meetings with Bush and Rove in order to get their new talking points…you would think that these folks would get tired of being a lap dog for this administration. .If they want to be true conservatives then they should defend conservative values…and not be prostitutes to political expediency…

All media should hold Bush to his STAY THE COURSE history and all the mistakes that have been made…after all people are losing their lives in wars and that is more important than the administration’s political lies.

Sister Helen Prejean in Portland

I am magdaleno or leno ..to Helen I am Lenny.

Sister Helen is a wonderful person and gives a good message for all. Unfortunately I will still be back east and will miss her talk.

Dear Friends

GOT VOTE

I want all of you to vote as soon as possible ..you can do this at your court house.. I got my absentee ballot and will be filling it out soon and then I will concentrate on getting others to vote and will plan to work the days prior to election date to help one of my favorite candidates..We all must do everything in our power to get people to vote and work the campaigns..

EL DIA DE LOS MUERTOS Y MUERTAS

The Day of The Dead Nov. 2nd

In Mexico this day is celebrated with a warm and happy remembrance of loved ones who have left this earth.  It is celebrated with visits to the graves where one would clean them, remember our loved ones and share the deceased favorite foods, drinks, toys, magazines..Ettcettera…People also build altars with images of LA VIRGIN DE GUADELUPE, pictures of the deceased, letters and the food and drink and many images of Calaveras/skeletons.

This year I know that many of you are building altars and will have a special celebration on the 2nd.  I would ask you to give recognition to THE WOMEN OF JUAREZ who have been victims to violence. And do not forget the women of Guatemala, Darfur and the women of our own cities who have been victims of violence.

Another message to have on our altars is in behalf of those killed by our illegal wars.

While we recognize these individuals along with our personal loved ones…let us do this with gusto and in celebration…I hope that I will run into green chili, tamales and tequila on some of the altars…

THE WALL

Building a barrier on the Mexican Border

Some politicians and media personalities have pushed for more attention to be given to the Mexican Border…This was done supposedly because of national security. Our fear for terrorists has allowed the border to become militarized and the building of the extension of the wall.  I believe that much of this fear is race related given that it is brown people coming north..

If we were concerned about our borders and security then we would do more to secure our northern border with Canada, and our ports. Instead this effort is to attack Latinos and in particular Mexicans. Meanwhile many growers are doing with out many workers needed to harvest their crops. And at the same time the human rights of those living on the southern border areas is being restricted and abused.

While we protest the wall some have poked fun at its ability to stem the flow of immigrants..

HERE ARE SOME WILD AND FUNNY IDEAS BEING KICKED AROUND BY MANY

a. If the wall is 20 feet tall then there will be 21 foot ladders made

B Immigrants are being trained to walk on stilts so that they can hop over the wall

c. Some are training with circus canons so that they can be shot over the wall

d. Catapults are being built along the wall that would send people up and over

e. Large circus nets are being assembled on the northern side of the border to catch all      thrown over the border.

5. In central Mexico they are training people to become high flying pole vaulters.

6. Another school is training immigrants to scuba dive and to swim via the ocean into California or Texas.

6. Others are at a parachute school and while they are dropped on the Mexican side they can take advantage of wind currents and guide the parachutes to land on the USA side.

7. Some are just flying to Canada learning to say EEEH..And walking across

8. There is a rumor that those building the wall will sabotage it many ways

            A. put much more sand than cement thus the wall would become brittle and would easily crumple.

            B. put in plastic explosives that could be set off at a later date.

            C. have the same contractor who built the police academy in Iraq build the wall. This contractor’s work in Iraq was a disaster and they had to destroy parts of the police academy and they could do the same with the wall.

 9. Cruise ships and Cargo ships are being staffed with immigrants who will jump ship once it gets to the port.

If you know of other plans please share them with me…ha ha (in Spanish it is ja ja)

THE HAUNTED HOUSE FOR THIS HOLLOWEEN

I am told that there are many scary houses to visit and be scared out of your wits. The scariest one is called the White House. ..This is a house of horrors, death warrants and lies. Second best is the Pentagon where there is a mean ghost that roams through out the halls asking himself questions and providing answers to his own questions…and then at last moment this ghost sends more people off to unjust wars.… Congress is filled with many goblins, criminals, and legislation that will scare you out of your wits…

I am sure that there are other haunted houses which I forgot to mention.

The Nurse

      Gave love as her medicine

Thursday I went to the doctors to find out if I was getting better ..Sitting in the waiting room I watched as a thin Anglo nurse greeted and spoke to some elderly African-American women.  I was struck by affectionate way she talked to them and the careful way she touched them. It was beautiful to watch her work with these women. It was kindness of the best level.

Twenty minutes later I am shown to an examination room and am greeted by the same nurse.  I told her how impressed I was with her treatment of these older women. She told me that she likes those ladies and want them to feel good about their medical visits. My doctor (who is really good) was late …so I and the nurse talked a bit….I found out that she volunteered for Katrina and that she has taken vacations working for clinics in Latin America. …In addition I found out that she was also a member of Amnesty International..

I must tell you that this woman won my heart and my admiration…there are a lot of good folks out there in this world of ours we just don’t get to see all of them…

——————————————————————————————

UPDATE ON THE WORKOUTS…

I am still going to the gym and it is interesting to find out who also goes there.  I have run into a Musse one of my board members, Julio a peer at the office and Elizabeth a young immigration attorney. Miriam who also works in my office has her husband going to this gym and he has said he has seen me leaving the building.  Today I took Alex a young 17 year gang member with me to do a light work out…It seems that I will see more folks at the gym along with my friend Paul an immigration attorney who got me started on this path…

I hope to keep at it and to stay alive…

Capture your sun and moon…

Get your picture taken with those you love …capture your life and history in video or still photos…in particular capture our seniors or those ill…we need these memories to share with others in all the years to come…

Ahora..Violence Vistis The Amish..10-9-06

Written by magdaleno on October 9, 2006 – 5:09 am -

Dear Sisters and Brothers

Today we must open up our arms to others in our community. ..We must connect our movements, our dreams and our work. ..We must build bridges between us and find ways to work together in behalf our community. We must find a way to work with in coalitions.

NOW FOR MY VIEW OF THE NEWS

a.      Violence Invades the Amish

b.      Re-hab

c.       Stay the Course

d.      Chicano in the Gym

e.       Speaking Schedule

————————————————————————————————————

VIOLENCE INVADES THE HUMBLE AMISH

There has been a lot of violence in the schools and no one calls for more control of weapons….The NRA the national rifle association continues to intimidate law makers from taking a bold step forward.

The Amish community in Pennsylvania has received a lot of attention and many financial donations as a result of five of their young students being killed….They did not ask for the money and are probably uncomfortable with these unexpected funds. It is said that they are taking some of the money to help the family of the man who shot and killed their children.  The Amish community has involved itself in reaching out to the family of Carl Roberts Rodgers IV who shot and killed there loved one. They understand that we must all heal and that the family of the shooter is not guilty of the crime of their family member. In addition some of them went to the funeral of Mr. Rodgers.

The Bush administration is calling a special conference on school violence…I would suggest that they go to the Amish Community and learn lessons there, not from the NRA (The National Rifle Association)..

RE-HAB (rehabilitation)

It seems that any politician who is caught lying, committing crimes or moral indiscretions can now blame alcohol and go into rehab…Congressman Ney and Congressman Foley both ran from the media and the truth by running to rehab.

Flip Wilson a black comic some years ago used to joke that when he did some thing wrong he would say …THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT…

This devil seems to have been very very busy these days…

The republicans try to blame anyone but them selves….

Well when you can’t blame the Devil you can always blame the democrats or you can blame Bill Clinton or George Soros or the Victims…

If you watch Fox News long enough you will see their fingers and stories pointing towards any one but the party in power.

I think I will stick with Flip Wilson …THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT.

STAY THE COURSE …AND SEE MORE MISTAKES

George Bush continues to stay the course ….and we continue to lose our soldiers and make more enemies …how many have to die before we say enough is enough…we need to continue to make this issue a key issue in this election cycle… we need to raise our voices and votes against this war.

It’s weird that the Bush administration has budgeted $20 million to celebrate the victory in Iraq…that is a very strange thing to have in the budget when everything is going wrong with this awful war. There is nothing to celebrate…

Remember that you need to do all in your power to get everyone out to vote. We need to send a clear message to all politicos about this war.

A CHICANO TRYING TO STAY ALIVE

I have joined a GYM…yep a place with three floors of equipment, saunas, whirlpools and work out areas…a lawyer friend of mine Paul Soreff convinced me that I should join..

At first I did not want to hear that I needed help and worse… that I needed to spend some of my hard earned cash on this endeavor ….

I joined got a personal trainer who measured and weighed me…most embarrassing…then went on to introduce me to an exercise routine…

Soon I was going in five days a week and doing other exercises at home on off days…the results are not easy to obtain but come slowly….I have long days of work and have to figure in some odd hours for this exercise routine….so far the results are that I found some muscles on my legs…and beginning to find some muscles on my back and biceps…also I have lost 12 pounds …mostly quesadillas and tamales that were hanging on to my body…so if I can lose a pound a week then it will be fine and worth all the effort and money…

WHO GOES TO THIS GYM?…It is filled by people of all colors, sizes, shapes and income levels….yes there are some there with bodies like mine working out and trying to get in shape…but the bulk of the people there already  have good looking bodies …some with bulging muscles…most men and women there work out with more weight than what I can tackle…some are grunting and sweating for long periods of time and seem very happy with this process….then there is leno with a simple but interesting work out routine…

The peer pressure is to get the right stuff to wear in this gym …so that it looks as if you are serious about working out…on one floor the walls are windows and people walking by can look in and watch us working out. I am close to having the right clothes and bag…and almost ready for public scrutiny. You also must have a good looking water bottle…when you are working out you need to drink plenty of water….

You have to learn to stretch before, during and after your work out…even stretching has an art to it and you must look good when you are stretching…it is not polite to stare at others…so often I close my eyes….and pretend that I am in the gym alone..

When I can’t work up a good sweat I run into the bath room and spray water on the right places on my shirt, face and neck ….then I run out and get on a treadmill and push myself a little ..Those around me I know are impressed with my efforts and all the sweat that seems to show on me……there I am leno sweating with the best of them…

I am learning the right way walk after a work out…I have to make it look as if my muscles are tight and that I am in control of this new body

Most of the trainers there know me and call out HEY LENO HOW YA DOING TODAY…some actually stop by to tell me how to get the most out of a particular routine… and there is a lot of encouragement…since I started I have run into other friends, staff and one of my board members there. Not as private as I would like.

I might never have a so called beautiful body…but mine will be better tuned and aligned in the days to come. And eventually I will sweat and perspire with the best of them…

OTHER HONORED

This past week I got to see many honored included my own organization at a variety of Annual Dinners. It is good to recognize local groups and individuals because of their work and their dreams. But I must remind you that there are many other worthy individuals and groups who may never be recognized . These folks continue to do the work because it is right and just. So we must honor all who work in behalf of our communities. You can honor them by personally thanking them for their work…This will help to keep them moving forward and struggling for justice.

Ahora..Rep. Foley Resigns ..Oct. 2nd, 2006

Written by magdaleno on October 2, 2006 – 4:37 am -

Dear Sisters and Brothers

I am urging all of you to get involved in your local and national elections. You can not sit this one out …Support your candidates with all that you have and work to make change in this country of ours…You can help to make a difference …take comp time, vacation time, sick leave but get out and work this election cycle.

NOW FOR MY VIEW OF THE NEWS.

  1. Warning for Rice
  2. Cafferty on CNN
  3. Rep. Mark Foley Resigns.
  4. Open your heart to the homeless

————————————————————————————————————

Two Months Before 9/11, an Urgent Warning to Rice

WASHINGTON (Washington Post) – On July 10, 2001, two months before the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, then-CIA Director George J. Tenet met with his counterterrorism chief, J. Cofer Black, at CIA headquarters to review the latest on Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaeda terrorist organization.

Black laid out the case, consisting of communications intercepts and other top-secret intelligence showing the increasing likelihood that al-Qaeda would soon attack the United States. It was a mass of fragments and dots that nonetheless made a compelling case, so compelling to Tenet that he decided he and Black should go to the White House immediately.

Tenet called Condoleezza Rice, then national security adviser, from the car and said he needed to see her right away. There was no practical way she could refuse such a request from the CIA director.

For months, Tenet had been pressing Rice to set a clear counterterrorism policy, including specific presidential orders called “findings” that would give the CIA stronger authority to conduct covert action against bin Laden. Perhaps a dramatic appearance — Black called it an “out of cycle” session, beyond Tenet’s regular weekly meeting with Rice — would get her attention.

Tenet had been losing sleep over the recent intelligence he’d seen. There was no conclusive, smoking-gun intelligence, but there was such a huge volume of data that an intelligence officer’s instinct strongly suggested that something was coming. He and Black hoped to convey the depth of their anxiety and get Rice to kick-start the government into immediate action.

He did not know when, where or how, but Tenet felt there was too much noise in the intelligence systems. Two weeks earlier, he had told Richard A. Clarke, the National Security Council’s counterterrorism director: “It’s my sixth sense, but I feel it coming. This is going to be the big one.”

But Tenet had been having difficulty getting traction on an immediate bin Laden action plan, in part because Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld had questioned all the National Security Agency intercepts and other intelligence. Could all this be a grand deception? Rumsfeld had asked. Perhaps it was a plan to measure U.S. reactions and defenses.

Tenet had the NSA review all the intercepts, and the agency concluded they were of genuine al-Qaeda communications. On June 30, a top-secret senior executive intelligence brief contained an article headlined “Bin Laden Threats Are Real.”

Tenet hoped his abrupt request for an immediate meeting would shake Rice. He and Black, a veteran covert operator, had two main points when they met with her. First, al-Qaeda was going to attack American interests, possibly in the United States itself. Black emphasized that this amounted to a strategic warning, meaning the problem was so serious that it required an overall plan and strategy. Second, this was a major foreign policy problem that needed to be addressed immediately. They needed to take action that moment — covert, military, whatever — to thwart bin Laden.

The United States had human and technical sources, and all the intelligence was consistent, the two men told Rice. Black acknowledged that some of it was uncertain “voodoo” but said it was often this voodoo that was the best indicator.

Tenet and Black felt they were not getting through to Rice. She was polite, but they felt the brush-off. President Bush had said he didn’t want to swat at flies.

As they all knew, a coherent plan for covert action against bin Laden was in the pipeline, but it would take some time. In recent closed-door meetings the entire National Security Council apparatus had been considering action against bin Laden, including using a new secret weapon: the Predator unmanned aerial vehicle, or drone, that could fire Hellfire missiles to kill him or his lieutenants. It looked like a possible solution, but there was a raging debate between the CIA and the Pentagon about who would pay for it and who would have authority to shoot.

Besides, Rice seemed focused on other administration priorities, especially the ballistic missile defense system that Bush had campaigned on. She was in a different place.

Tenet left the meeting feeling frustrated. Though Rice had given them a fair hearing, no immediate action meant great risk. Black felt the decision to just keep planning was a sustained policy failure. Rice and the Bush team had been in hibernation too long. “Adults should not have a system like this,” he said later.

The July 10 meeting between Tenet, Black and Rice went unmentioned in the various reports of investigations into the Sept. 11 attacks, but it stood out in the minds of Tenet and Black as the starkest warning they had given the White House on bin Laden and al-Qaeda. Though the investigators had access to all the paperwork on the meeting, Black felt there were things the commissions wanted to know about and things they didn’t want to know about.

Philip D. Zelikow, the aggressive executive director of the Sept. 11 commission and a University of Virginia professor who had co-authored a book with Rice on Germany, knew something about the July 10 meeting, but it was not clear to him what immediate action really would have meant. In 2005 Rice hired Zelikow as a top aide at the State Department.

Afterward, Tenet looked back on the meeting with Rice as a tremendous lost opportunity to prevent or disrupt the Sept. 11 attacks. Rice could have gotten through to Bush on the threat, but she just didn’t get it in time, Tenet thought. He felt that he had done his job and had been very direct about the threat, but that Rice had not moved quickly. He felt she was not organized and did not push people, as he tried to do at the CIA.

Black later said, “The only thing we didn’t do was pull the trigger to the gun we were holding to her head.”

Editor’s Note: How much effort the Bush administration made in going after Osama bin Laden before the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, became an issue last week after former president Bill Clinton accused President Bush’s “neocons” and other Republicans of ignoring bin Laden until the attacks. Rice responded in an interview that “what we did in the eight months was at least as aggressive as what the Clinton administration did in the preceding years.”

Cafferty tells the truth

Cafferty from CNN…this is worth the watch…take a moment.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoRjbIQMXGQ

Rep. Mark Foley

WHEN DID THE REPUBLICAN HOUSE LEADERSHIP KNOW AND WHAT DID THEY DO

Now just a reminder of the theatrical moral outrage of Rep. Mark Foley said about Clinton’s indiscretions…

It’s vile,” said Rep. Mark Foley, R-West Palm Beach. “It’s more sad than anything else, to see someone with such potential throw it all down the drain because of a sexual addiction.” -1998 about Clinton

INTERESTING!!!

Recently Rep. Foley resigned his position in congress when it was revealed that he was sending e mails to pages that had sexual implications. This is a man who co-chaired a special committee that has over sight on internet predators…BAD REPUBLICAN DECISION TO PUT THE FOX IN THE HEN HOUSE.

There needs to be a full, immediate and independent investigation of this incident. The Speaker of the House knew months ago as did other republican leaders and they did nothing… we should all press for the truth and to know if there is a cover up…were the republicans just trying to hold on to their majority in the house and is that why they were silent ????… Those who knew of this situation and took no action should also be asked to resign…immediately.

Open up your hearts to the homeless

Everyday I seem to run into homeless individuals who at one point had lives just like the rest of us …they had normal lives. Many are veterans of our wars, others lost their jobs, their families and in the process many have lost their last strands of sanity. I am proud of those who work and assist the homeless and help many of them to begin life anew…Many of the homeless look like some one I know and sometimes wonder if I might join their ranks through some bad turn of luck ….and wonder if you would reach out to me if I was in such a difficult state….

Went to the Doctor…

The doctor came into the small room and asked WHY ARE YOU HERE?…UUH I AM SICK I RESPONDED……after many questions and many probes into my ears, throat and nose…she confirmed that I was sick…and proceeded to give me the proper prescriptions… the last two times that I have gone to the doctors I have had to get undressed and with this chubby body it is most embarrassing…but I will do what it takes to get healthy…my advice to you is to see your doc..check out what is bothering you..

NO THERE IS NO MEDICINE FOR GETTING PRESIDENT BUSH OUT OF OUR SYSTEMS OTHER THAN VOTING AND DEMONSTRATING….so for almost everything else see your medical provider…and eat more raw vegetables, fruit and remember to drink your water…and exercise….

My best
