Ahora…The Brits Go Marching On..2-22-07
Written by magdaleno on February 22, 2007 – 5:20 am -DEAR FRIENDS
Some how we must find a way to get our elected officials to take the right stands to get us out of the war. Too many are dying and the injured are not being helped. If you think the Washington Post Series on Walter Reed hospital are bad…we should examine the treatment or lack of treatment that Iraqis receive after they are injured in this war. Please continue to raise your voices so that we can end this awful war.
NOW FOR MY VIEW OF THE NEWS
- the brits
- anna Nicole smith
- homeless notice
- carload of immigrants
- Helen Prejean.

THE BRITS GO MARCHING OUT..HOORAY ….HOORAY
Cut and Run ….
The Bush Administration has tried to spin the pullout of the more British Troops as a sign of success. The Troop level at one point was I believe 40,000 now it is at about 7,000 and will soon be down to 5,000.
If they are such a successful British Military then they should send their troops to Baghdad. Bush should have pushed them to stay and help. But the British will not go into Baghdad because they know that more brits will be killed. This is CUT AND RUN and nothing more.
Sec. of State Rice insisted that the Coalition of the Willing was still strong. The countries and numbers have been another sham of smoke and mirrors.
USA troops are being left alone to die in a war that was not needed.

ANNA NICOLE SMITH
I mourn her death as I would that of any young person who dies before they get to learn some of the strong lessons of life. Not to mention the death of her young son
Almost everyone wants her body to bury it and even more are claiming to be the father of her baby. It seems that the girl was bit busy in her last year. The staff of the CCN show LARRY KING called me cell phone to ask me to confirm or deny that I too was some how involved with Ms. Smith. I referred them to my battery of lawyers..
ONLY THE HOMLESS NOTICE ME
On valentines day one of my regular customers a homeless man was asking for some spare change..As I dropped the change in his can he said YOU LOOK GOOD I CAN SEE THAT YOU ARE LOSING WEIGHT…..I answered YES IAM LOSIING A FEW POUNDS AND WORKING OUT….he smiled and I pulled an additional dollar and put it in his can.
THE CAR LOAD OF IMMIGRANTS
They made me laugh, cry and live
I went to Olympia to attend the Hispanic Legislative Day and to join Maru Villapando and Lisa Seifert and present Comprehensive Immigration Reform.
At the end of the session I was asked by CASA LATINA if I would give a ride back to Seattle for some of their Day Laborers who had come to lobby the legislators. I agreed.
I went to the parking lot and straightened out my car a bit and went to pick up the men. They were three Mexicans and one Guatemalan.. We introduced each other and began conversations that would last the hour and half trip from Olympia to Seattle… I believe they were charmed by riding in a car that was an old taxi.
We talked about their families, their work, the remittances they send home and I told them stories of my youth and my wonderful family.
We laughed, cried and once shouted at the top of lungs as I almost ran into a back of a car that had slowed down on the freeway in Tacoma.
It was like being with my dad, my uncles, the campesinos I knew from my United Farmworkers days.
IT WAS WONDERFUL..
As they got out of my car in down town Seattle, I reminded them that they all owed me a burrito for the ride. And that the director of Casa Latina Hillary Stern and her staff person Daniel would owe me money and we all laughed.. One of the men joked that he did not like the ride and that he would refuse to pay me the burrito…and we all laughed some more

SISTER HELEN PREJEAN
Writes me a note regarding the latest gossip about me and my future.
I got an email last night from the ever famous SISTER HELEN PREJEAN of Dead Man Walking pain. Seems that some good friends went to hear here speak at All Saints Church in Pasadena and told her the latest gossip regarding my life.
It is always good to hear from Helen. Even if she is asking many questions.
Some weeks ago she fooled me ..called me out of the blue and took on an old woman’s voice claiming to be the mother of JOSH MARQUIS this District Attorney whom I had debated on the death penalty the night before the call. In a cracked and shaky voice she said …YOU …YOU DESTROYED MY SON JOSH WITH YOUR MORAL ARGUMENTS. HOW COULD YOU HAVE DONE THIS TO MY SON ..YOU DESTROYED HIM….it was early in the morning I had not had my coffee and for a minute I though it was Josh’s mom. Then Helen started laughing…
Besides having strong prayers and truth . Helen also is a budding actress…watch out Susan Sarandon.
Scooter Libby
Libby says he can’t remember..thats his defense …wow…I believe he lied under oath and now he is being hung out to dry and shooter ( the vice president) did not have the backbone to get on the witness stand and defend his former top aide. Keep an eye on this story…lets see what the jury does with this most important case.

Last week, at the White House:
“I am surprised, frankly, at the amount of distrust that exists in this town. And I’m sorry it’s the case, and I’ll work hard to try to elevate it.”

BUSH GAVE US WAR — NOW GIVE HIM HELL FOR IT
Tuesday, 06 February 2007
This was Molly Ivins’ last column.
By Molly Ivins
The purpose of this old-fashioned newspaper crusade to stop the war is not to make George W. Bush look like the dumbest president ever. People have done dumber things. What were they thinking when they bought into the Bay of Pigs fiasco? How dumb was the Egypt-Suez war? How massively stupid was the entire war in Vietnam? Even at that, the challenge with this misbegotten adventure is that we simply cannot let it continue.
It is not a matter of whether we will lose or we are losing. We have lost.
Gen. John P. Abizaid, until recently the senior commander in the Middle East, insists that the answer to our problems there is not military.
“You have to internationalize the problem. You have to attack it diplomatically, geo-strategically,” he said. His assessment is supported by Gen. George W. Casey Jr., the departing senior American commander in Iraq, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who only recommend releasing forces with a clear definition of the goals for the additional troops.
Bush’s call for a “surge” or “escalation” also goes against the Iraq Study Group.
Talk is that the White House has planned to do anything but what the group suggested after months of investigation and proposals based on much broader strategic implications.
About the only politician out there besides Bush actively calling for a surge is Sen. John McCain. In a recent opinion piece, he wrote: “The presence of additional coalition forces would allow the Iraqi government to do what it cannot accomplish today on its own — impose its rule throughout the country. . . . By surging troops and bringing security to Baghdad and other areas, we will give the Iraqis the best possible chance to succeed.”
But with all due respect to the senator from Arizona, that ship has long since sailed.
A surge is not acceptable to the people in this country — we have voted overwhelmingly against this war in polls (about 80 percent of the public is against escalation, and a recent Military Times poll shows only 38 percent of active military want more troops sent) and at the polls.
We know this is wrong. The people understand, the people have the right to make this decision, and the people have the obligation to make sure our will is implemented.
Congress must work for the people in the resolution of this fiasco.
Ted Kennedy’s proposal to control the money and tighten oversight is a welcome first step.
And if Republicans want to continue to rubber-stamp this administration’s idiotic “plans” and go against the will of the people, they should be thrown out as soon as possible, to join their recent colleagues.
Anyone who wants to talk knowledgably about our Iraq misadventure should pick up Rajiv Chandrasekaran’s “Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraq’s Green Zone.” It’s like reading a horror novel. You just want to put your face down and moan: How could we have let this happen? How could we have been so stupid?
As The Washington Post’s review notes, Chandrasekaran’s book “methodically documents the baffling ineptitude that dominated U.S. attempts to influence Iraq’s fiendish politics, rebuild the electrical grid, privatize the economy, run the oil industry, recruit expert staff or instill a modicum of normalcy to the lives of Iraqis.”
We are the people who run this country. We are the deciders. And every single day, every single one of us needs to step outside and take some action to help stop this war. Raise hell. Think of something to make the ridiculous look ridiculous. Make our troops know we’re for them and trying to get them out of there. Hit the streets to protest Bush’s proposed surge. . . . We need people in the streets, banging pots and pans and demanding, “Stop it, now!”
Note…I got to meet Molly and hear her speak on many an occasion. I even got to read some poems at her home at a gathering she called thie roundup of ALL THE LIBERALS LEFT IN TEXAS. Molly will be missed
THE WAR GOES ON …
Innocent people killed each and every day …and the war goes on.
- friendly fire…seems after some cover up it has come out that the United States attacked by mistake British troops…doesn’t sound so friendly to me.
- More civilians for Iraq…the state department can not find enough civilians to support the troop surge…and the military is upset with state.
- Cash disappeared…$12 billion in cash shipped to Iraq and no one knows how it was spent…sounds like the largest drug deal in the world…tax payers should be enraged over this mis-management of our tax dollars.
- When does the surge start..the military wont say when their program started and when it will end and what will be the bench marks…
- Wrinkle free uniforms….seems that progress has been made..the military now has a uniform that is wrinkle free and creatively uses Velcro…I wonder if you bleed the same in this new uniform…
JAGUARES
MEXCIAN ROCK GROUPS RAISES BORDER ISSUES IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA on February 3rd.
Amnesty International sponsored a program close to the border at the Southwestern Community College in Chula Vista just minutes from the US/Mexican Border.
Many community leaders and Saul lead singer of Jaguares raised the human rights abuse that is occurring as a result of militarization of the border and because of racial profiling of immigrants. I leno rose-avila was amongst those panelist who raised the issues at hand and offered solutions.
It was a good event to have so close to the border with many students in attendance. I personally want to thank the Western Regional Office of Amnesty International and Jaguares for making this possible.
Ted Haggard former minister is now COMPLETELY HETEROSEXUAL.
After three weeks of intensive counseling in Phoenix, Arizona he has been declared cured by the Rev. Tim Ralph. Wow three weeks in Phoenix and you no longer want drugs and sexual relations with another person of your same sex. Phoenix could become the next holy land for the right wing…
MY BLOOD PRESSURE
I have been able to lower my blood pressure by exercise, diet and drinking water..It never was really ever high but it looks better now and I feel better…so I will continue down this road…
My best
