It is has been a long time since I have seen some Ahora news. My computer was at the Doctors.. I got it back last night and it still is having some problems. But I will try to get this mail out to you before more problems appear. It is interesting how tied we get to our personal computers

CELEBRATE CESAR’S BIRTHDAY

March 31^st this Saturday is the birthday of a Cesar Estrada Chavez..I had the pleasure to work as a organizer for Cesar and be the first Executive Director founded in his name.

This year the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project will celebrate it officially this year given that it was included in the holiday section of the union contract that was signed with Employees last year.

Yesterday I spoke with Cesar’s son Paul Chavez and we each updated one another on our lives. I will visit the Chavez Plaza in April and meet with Paul and others. In addition I will call on Cesar’s wife Helen Chavez.

LENO IS BEING DEPORTED     

                         To Miami

My family has pulled my passport and asked that I go to them. I will soon work in Miami and enjoy the love of my immediate family. I have been in Seattle for 3 ½ years and now it is time for me to be in Miami.

Thus I have resigned from my position as Executive Director of NWIRP. I have enjoyed my work with the organization and all of the people of the Northwest. I have learned a lot and have been a part of a great movement for human rights.  I fell in love with this wonderful part of the world and will always come back and visit my second home.

NWIRP has a strong management team and is moving forward with its many programs and will continue to speak for those who need our legal representation and advocacy.

I feel good about the status of NWIRP and its support that it gets from all of you.

My daughter Aviva is graduating on April 30^th so I want to be moved to Miami before that date.  This will be a nice week for recognition of this wonderful young woman. Thus I will be driving out on the 21^st of April

NWIRP will be searching for a new ED and soon that job announcement should be out in the mail.

My last day with NWIRP is APRIL 20^th.  That night the Staff and Board are organizing a great fiesta to celebrate my work and our wonderful organization …Please pass on this information to others….I hope that will come and make this evening special.

ALBERTO GONZALES MUST STEP DOWN

It is time for Alberto to go …not just for his recent lying about the firing of the U. S. Attorneys but for his continued actions to tear at the fabric of our constitution and our bill of rights. He is a man who led the effort to give legal reasons for torture and the death of the innocent.

Spring is at the back door.

I am excited by the opportunity to dig my shovel into the ground, turn the soil and get ready for my plants. …it is a good time for us all to enjoy Mother Earth and its entire splendor.
